BREAKING NEWS –  Fugu Puffer Fish Poison Alert 2018 – Deadly Blowfish Recall Activates Japan Emergency Warning 🇯🇵 🐡 ⚠️:

The city of Gamagori in the Aichi Prefecture of Japan activated its Emergency Warning System on Tuesday, January 16, 2018. It was activated to warn residents from consuming a locally purchased fugu, otherwise known as Puffer or Blow Fish, after a mix-up resulted in selling the fish without the toxic parts removed.

A supermarket sold 5 packages of the deadly fish without removing the poisonous livers.

Local official, Koji Takayanagi said that three of the potentially lethal specimens had been located, but 2 still remain at large.

Takayanagi added, “We are calling for residents to avoid eating fugu, using Gamagori city’s emergency wireless system,” which broadcasts over loudspeakers that are located throughout the city.

Fugu fish is an expensive winter delicacy in Japan. It’s typically served in paper thin slices of sashimi or in a hot pot.

However, the skin, intestines, ovaries and livers of fugu contain a poisonous toxin called tetrodotoxin that can be fatal.

According to the Japanese Health Ministry, Fugu can only be legally prepared in Japan by special permit, but several people die each year from consuming a lethal serving of fugu that was prepared incorrectly, while dozens of others survive with non-lethal side effects.

Regional officials warned, “Eating blowfish liver can paralyze motor nerves, and in a serious case, cause respiratory arrest, leading to death.”
