Counting Money And Numbers In Japan
When counting money and numbers in Japan, for written numbers, youβre in luck.
The Japanese use Latin numerical characters for everyday numbers on streets signs, in the subway and when making a purchase. The cash register will either have the number in Yen that you need to pay, and when there is no register, it is there custom to show the customer the amount on a giant calculator.
Counting Money And Numbers In Japan - Ratio Of Yen To US Dollars
When exchanging, the ratio of Yen to US Dollars is about 850% (it varies), but for simplicity, I just think of it as 10 to 1, so I can just move the decimal over 2 places: 100 Yen, in my mind, is 1 dollar, or rather 100 pennies. Itβs safe to think of the Yen as the Penny.
In addition, it would not hurt to learn how to count in Japanese. You basically need to learn how to count to 10 and the numbers for 100, 1,000 and 1,000,000. Like English, the rest is just by combing the numbers you already know.
There are both Japanese and Chinese numbers used in Japan, but the Chinese numbers are used for counting number and the Japanese numbers for time of day and in elevators.
