If you wanted to know what to do in Japan, amazingly Japan has a very old culture.

With numerous UNESCO World Heritage sites both in and out of the major metropolitans temples, there are many temples, shrines, castles and other landmarks which answer the question, why visit Japan.

Tokyo is actually a prefecture which is somewhat like a state or province. What foreigners refer to as Tokyo city is the main downtown part of Tokyo which is surrounded by a circular subway train system.

Downtown Tokyo is one of the world’s most major cities and very dense and crowded. When shopping in Tokyo, getting off the train in virtually any station in downtown Tokyo is a completely over-the-top experience. Japan is nations of islands and space is a commodity.

Everything is built up towards the sky in Tokyo. Trying to explore Tokyo at random can be pretty overwhelming as it is very easy to spend half a day, or even the whole day, on a single block or even in a single store, which typically has 8 or 9 floors.

While traveling in Japan, you’ll get more out of your days and cram more into your trip by pre-planning your sites to see and exploring what you pass by, organically, as you follow your itinerary.

I used sites like TripAdivsor.com to help my find the most popular and recommend spots to see.

My wife, who is a Japanese native, has set a goal of visiting as many UNESCO World Heritage Sites as possible during her lifetime. She used the UNESCO World Heritage Site list to pick places to visit throughout Japan as well.
